    Description

    the bookmark
super cool bookmark/special object by navajo/diné artist filbert brown. depicts humanity's location in the universe through sequential layers as would be outgoing concentric circles. this reminds me a bit of the 1974 arecibo message broadcast into space (see last image). a great thing to look while meditiating on where we sit in the greater universe. bookmark is signed on the «fb» (for filbert brown) on the reverse and is stamped «sterling». it is 4" tall from base to top bend. it is 1/2" wide. the plane on which the turquoise sits is just about 3/4" long. it is topped with an inset/flush mounted green turquoise often featured in navajo jewelry and objects. i believe the turquoise is from the most famous source for the gemstone: nevada's tonopah blue gem mine. i have had it for a very long time and can detect no condition issues.
about the arecibo message (from wikipedia):
the arecibo message is a 1974 interstellar radio message carrying basic information about humanity and earth sent to globular star cluster m13. it was meant as a demonstration of human technological achievement, rather than a real attempt to enter into a conversation with extraterrestrials.
the message was broadcast into space a single time via frequency modulated radio waves at a ceremony to mark the remodeling of the arecibo radio telescope in puerto rico on 16 november 1974. the message was aimed at the current location of m13 about 25,000 light years away because m13 was a large and close collection of stars that was available in the sky at the time and place of the ceremony. the message forms the image shown here when translated into graphics, characters, and spaces.

    the fine print
the images are the majority of the listing description, so take a look at them closely.
shipping costs have really increased—this is calculated into the buy-it-now price.
i am not able to sell individual items from items i have listed as a group. i just don't have the stamina to create new listings for those. i apologize for that. i haven't initially individually listed items because i don't have enough listing slots to so.
trying to downsize some, though extremely melancholically.
shipping time: i otherwise work more than full time and my health isn't great, so kindly excuse the longer handling time. if i am able to ship sooner, i absolutely will do that
. i appreciate you taking the time to view my listing.
